GIRL'S CAMP & WAR WOUNDS

This was Mak's first year at girl's camp. This is my....well, let's just say I've done it before many times. The stake theme was Solid As A Rock and each ward chose a gem. Our ward chose the pearl and decorated the camp Hawaiian style. I had an old full-size cut out of Elvis (why? you ask....somethings are best left unsaid) and the girl's made some really cool palm trees and surfboards. Of course there were leis and ukeleles. Amy was our camp director and she and Laurie, also known as Hop-Sing, did a fantastic job.

The best part for me this year was Bishop Brad. He was just like a little boy wanting to get into trouble, only he figured out a way to get into the trouble without taking the blame. Those of us left behind, following his commands, "took it for the team". He had his eye on a plush velvet, gold love seat that the stake leaders brought for their camp. After several requests, we finally obliged the Bishop and "couch-napped". Bishop thought it would be a good idea to put on the scout trailer. We agreed. We decorated the couch with Elvis and some trees. The stake leaders were clueless for several hours and then finally spotted it. In their attempt to reclaim it, some had to "take it for the team". The next day, we returned their plush velvet gold love seat in style....With all the girl's carrying the couch into stake roll call overhead, J in a church-approved thong bikini sitting atop, we made our entrance. Only the stake leaders and our ward understood it's significance. It became the stake camp joke. Other wards tried to imitate, but couldn't come up with a decent prank of their own.
